#1. Experienced champion Erica Wheeler, a 5'7'' point guard at 35 years old, who graduated from Rutgers in 2013 and helped them win the Puerto Rican BSNF Regular Season Champion title that year, currently plays professionally in the WNBA. Most recently, she led the Los Angeles Sparks to a thrilling victory over the Washington Mystics with a score of 92-87 in Friday night's game, where she was named the MVP. Wheeler showcased her skills by scoring 21 points, grabbing 2 rebounds, and dishing out 8 assists in 35 minutes of play. Despite the Los Angeles Sparks having a somewhat lackluster 4-5 record this season, it is important to note that it is still early in the season, leaving room for improvement and potential turnarounds. Wheeler's impressive performance against the Washington Mystics not only contributed to the team's success but also highlighted her capabilities as a standout player. Her all-around contributions on the court were crucial in securing the victory and solidifying her team's position as the champion of the game. In the nine games she has played this season, Wheeler has been averaging 8.6 points, 2.1 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. With her consistent performance and leadership, she continues to prove herself as a valuable asset to her team as they strive for success in the ongoing WNBA season.
#2. In the recent game, the talented Kahleah Copper, a 6'1'' guard/forward and Scarlet Knights alumna from 2016, who currently plays professionally in the WNBA, could not lead the struggling Phoenix Mercury (2-8) to victory. Despite her commendable efforts, the Phoenix Mercury (#8) suffered a defeat on the road against the New York Liberty, with a final score of 74-84. Even though her team faced their sixth consecutive loss, Copper stood out as the top scorer, contributing 19 points during her 36 minutes on the court. She showcased her skills against New York Liberty, not only scoring 19 points but also securing 2 rebounds and providing 2 assists. Unfortunately, her outstanding performance was not enough to secure a win for her team. Individually, Copper has been having a remarkable season, displaying impressive statistics. She currently maintains an average of 18.4 points per game, 2.5 rebounds per game, and 1.8 assists per game across the 10 games she has played so far.
#3. Betnijah Laney-Hamilton, a 6'0'' guard who graduated from Rutgers in 2015 and received the All-Big Ten First Team award that year, is currently playing professionally in the WNBA. In a recent game, Laney-Hamilton played a significant role in the New York Liberty's victory over the Phoenix Mercury, with a final score of 75-68. Despite her limited playing time of just 15 minutes, she managed to contribute 13 points to the team's success. The New York Liberty, with a somewhat modest record of 5-4 this season, has benefited greatly from Laney-Hamilton's skills and experience, as this marks her fifth year with the team. In the recent game against the Phoenix Mercury, she showcased her talent by scoring 13 points, grabbing 3 rebounds, and dishing out 2 assists. Her exceptional performance was instrumental in securing the win for her team, ultimately earning her the title of champion of the game. Throughout this season, Laney-Hamilton has been maintaining solid averages of 8.8 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game over the course of six games. Her consistent contributions on the court have undoubtedly made her a key player for the New York Liberty as they strive for success in the WNBA.
#4. Tyia Singleton, a 27-year-old 6'2'' forward and Lady Rebels alumna from 2024, previously played for Rutgers between 2018 and 2022 before turning professional in Australia. Despite her notable background, Singleton's recent game for Hobart Chargers against Northern Force in the Australian NBL One North did not result in a victory. The Chargers, currently in 14th place with a 5-9 record, faced a tough challenge against the 11th-ranked Northern Force and fell short with a final score of 64-74. During the game, Singleton struggled to make a significant impact, scoring only 3 points in 17 minutes of play. Despite her efforts, including contributing 2 rebounds and 2 assists, the Lady Rebels finalist could not lead her team to a victory. This game may not be remembered as one of her best performances, but Singleton has been maintaining solid statistics throughout the season, averaging 12.6 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game in the 11 games played so far.
