#1. Malik Miller, a 6'4''-G 26-year-old who graduated from Morgan St. in 2023 and currently plays professionally in Holland, showcased his talent as he led Groningen to a 97-89 victory over ZZ Leiden in the Dutch Basketball League last Tuesday. In a standout performance, Miller was named the MVP of the game after scoring an impressive 31 points, securing 8 rebounds, and providing 3 assists in just 33 minutes of play. This remarkable display of skill is even more noteworthy considering that he is in only his third season of professional basketball. The game between Groningen and ZZ Leiden was highly anticipated, being a clash between two top 4 ranked teams in the league. Miller's exceptional performance on the court was instrumental in guiding his team to a crucial win, highlighting his importance as a key player for Groningen. Currently, Donar Groningenis is placed in a strong position within the league standings, thanks in part to Miller's contributions. Individually, Miller has been having an outstanding season, consistently delivering impressive statistics. He currently boasts an average of 21.0 points per game (the second best in the league), along with 10.0 rebounds per game (also the second best in the league) and 2.7 assists per game in the three games he has played so far. His remarkable performance and high stats clearly demonstrate why he is considered a champion player in the league.
#2. Stanley Davis Jr., a 6'5'' guard and 27-year-old Bears alumnus from 2020, who received the All-MEAC Third Team award that year, is currently playing professionally in North Macedonia. In a recent game, he led KK TFT to a thrilling victory against the third-ranked Pelister with a score of 116-112 in the North Macedonian Super League last Wednesday. Davis Jr. showcased his skills by scoring 23 points, securing 3 rebounds, and delivering 6 assists in 37 minutes of play. This highly anticipated match-up between two top 3 ranked teams in group Places 1-6 was the highlight of the round. Despite Pelister's strong record of 19-8, KK TFT Skopje (22-5) managed to secure the win, largely thanks to Davis Jr.'s stellar performance. This is Davis Jr.'s first season with the team, and he has made a significant impact since joining. Throughout the season, Davis Jr. has consistently displayed impressive stats, averaging 15.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.3 steals per game in 27 appearances. His contribution to the team has been instrumental in their success, showcasing his abilities as a champion player. It is worth noting that Stanley Davis Jr. is a naturalized American, further adding to his unique journey as a finalist athlete in the North Macedonian Super League.
#3. Lewis Djonkam, a 6'9'' forward/center who graduated from Morgan State in 2023 and currently plays professionally in Romania, showcased his skills last Saturday as he led Targu Jiu to a decisive 92-70 victory over Galati, one of the league's weakest teams with a record of 0-28. In this Romanian Liga Nationala Baschet de Masculin matchup, Djonkam exhibited his talent by scoring 14 points and securing 4 rebounds in just 20 minutes of play. Despite being in only his third season in professional basketball, Djonkam's performance was commendable, contributing significantly to his team's success. CSM Targu Jiu, with a record of 4-24, currently holds the 14th position in the league standings. The Play-Out Round has already concluded, with Djonkam's team finishing their season. This year marks Djonkam's first season with the team, and he has been making a significant impact with an average of 10.8 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game in 36 appearances. Djonkam's impressive statistics and on-court contributions have solidified his position as a key player for Targu Jiu, demonstrating his potential as a champion in the making.
#4. Troy Baxter Jr., a 6'9'' power forward who is a 30-year-old Bears alumnus from 2021 and recipient of the All-MEAC First Team award that year, currently plays professionally in Australia. In a recent game, he was unable to assist the Southern Districts Spartans (4-4) as they suffered a defeat. Despite Baxter Jr.'s strong performance, the sixth-placed SD Spartans (4-4) were unable to secure a win, falling 92-101 on the road to the lower-ranked (#11) Wizards in the North group. Baxter Jr. contributed 10 points and 5 rebounds in 28 minutes of play, marking his first appearance for the Southern Districts Spartans this season. Despite his impressive individual performance against Northside W, where he scored 10 points and grabbed 5 rebounds, his team was ultimately unable to emerge victorious in the game.
