Courtesy of Eurobasket LLC Every week we bring you a list of the top former Phoenix players who continue their career in pro basketball.
#1. Experienced champion Greg Mays, a 6'8'' forward aged 33, who graduated from Green Bay in 2015 and received the All-Horizon League Second Team award that year, currently plays professionally in Australia. In a recent game, Mays, a finalist, unfortunately couldn't lead the Forestville Eagles (10-2) to victory last Sunday. Despite his outstanding performance, the first-placed Forestville Eagles were narrowly defeated 86-84 on the road by the second-ranked South Adelaide Panthers in the Central group. During the game, Mays showcased his skills by achieving a double-double, scoring 22 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and contributing 2 blocks in 38 minutes of play. His significant efforts on the court against South Adelaide were commendable, but regrettably, his team fell short of securing the win. Throughout the season, Mays, a standout performer, has maintained impressive individual statistics, averaging 19.5 points per game and 6.8 rebounds per game.
#2. Sandy Cohen III, a 6'6'' guard/forward who is 30 years old and an alum of Phoenix from 2019, played a crucial role in helping his team reach the CIT Championship Finalist that year. Currently playing professionally in Israel, he recently faced a challenging game with M.Haifa (9-21) against M.Kiryat Gat (10-20) in the Israeli National League's second division. Despite his efforts, Cohen III could not lead his team to victory in this matchup, which ended in a 91-81 defeat for M.Haifa at home against the higher-ranked M.Kiryat Gat (#3) in the Play-Out group. Even though Cohen III managed to contribute 3 points, 1 rebound, and 1 assist during the game, it was not one of his standout performances, with the team experiencing its first loss after a streak of three consecutive wins. The Play-Out Round has already concluded, marking the end of this phase of the competition. Throughout the season, Cohen III has maintained relatively strong statistics, averaging 11.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. It is noteworthy that he holds both American and Israeli citizenship, allowing him to play in Israel as a domestic player.
