Dominican Republic's Esmery Martinez, a 6'2'' forward aged 26, who graduated from Arizona in 2024 and received the Latinbasket.com All-FIBA Centrobasket Women's Championship Best Center award that year, currently plays professionally in Mexico. In a recent game, she led the Panteras to a 75-70 victory over the closely-ranked Adelitas (12-4) in the Mexican Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional Feminil, the second division league, last Saturday. Martinez showcased her skills during the game, scoring 11 points, dishing out 4 assists, and recording 3 steals in just 22 minutes of play. This crucial matchup between two top 4 ranked teams highlighted Martinez's impact on the court. The Panteras de Aguascalientes, with a record of 14-2, currently hold the top spot in the league standings. With an impressive performance against the Adelitas, Martinez demonstrated her capabilities as a true champion, contributing significantly to her team's victory. Throughout the season, she has maintained solid averages of 7.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.2 steals per game in the 25 games she has played so far. Martinez's consistent contributions and standout plays exemplify her as a formidable finalist in the league.
