Courtesy of Eurobasket LLC We bring you last week's top former Longhorns players who are currently playing in pro basketball.
#1. Ariel Atkins, a 5'10'' point guard who graduated from Texas in 2018, is a key player in the WNBA. Known for her instrumental role in helping Texas win the WNBA Eastern Conference Champion title in her graduating year, Atkins now plays professionally in the league. Recently, she showcased her skills by leading the Los Angeles Sparks to a 97-88 victory over the Phoenix Mercury with an impressive performance. In the game, Atkins scored 11 points, contributed 3 assists, and made 3 steals in just 25 minutes of play. Despite the Los Angeles Sparks holding a somewhat weak 3-3 season record at present, it is important to remember that it is still early in the season, leaving room for improvement and unforeseen outcomes. Atkins' noteworthy performance against the Phoenix Mercury, where she not only scored 11 points but also secured 1 rebound and dished out 3 assists, undoubtedly played a pivotal role in her team's success. Her consistent contributions on the court have been reflected in her season averages of 8.0 points per game, 2.5 rebounds per game, 2.8 assists per game, and 2.0 steals per game, ranking her as the fourth-best in the league in steals. Her stellar play exemplifies her value as a champion player in the league.
#2. Joyner Holmes, a 28-year-old former Longhorns alumna from 2020, showcased her skills as a 6'3'' forward in the WNBA. Despite recording modest stats of 2 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 blocks in 15 minutes during her debut game for the Seattle Storm this season, her impact was significant. She contributed 2 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 assist in a crucial victory against the Connecticut Sun, helping her team secure a notable win with a score of 77-59. Although Seattle Storm currently holds a 3-4 record this season, Holmes' performance on the court proved vital in their recent success. Her valuable contributions and solid play were instrumental in leading her team to victory, solidifying her status as a champion in the Women's National Basketball Association.
#3. Rori Harmon, a 5'6'' guard who graduated from Texas in 2026 and was a finalist for the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year award that year, now showcases her talent as a professional player in the WNBA. Recently, Harmon, playing for the Washington Mystics, faced a tough match against the Seattle Storm. Despite her best efforts, she was not able to lead her team to victory against the Storm, who emerged as the winners with a final score of 97-85. In this particular game, Harmon's performance was limited to just 2 points and 1 rebound in 3 minutes on the court. It was not one of her standout games this season. Currently, Harmon maintains an average of 2.0 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. Despite the setback against the Storm, Harmon continues to strive for success as a dedicated player in the league.
#4. Sug Sutton, a 5'8'' point guard and 27-year-old Longhorns alumna from the class of 2020, who received the All-Big 12 Second Team award that year, currently plays professionally in the WNBA. In a recent game, she was unable to lead the Portland Fire (4-3) to victory, as they suffered a tough 90-73 loss on the road against the Indiana Fever. Despite her strong performance, Sutton, the team's second-best scorer with 14 points, couldn't prevent the defeat. She also contributed 4 assists in just 24 minutes of play. Against the Indiana Fever, Sutton showcased her skills with 14 points, 1 rebound, and 4 assists, displaying an impressive performance individually. However, her efforts were not enough to secure the win for her team. Throughout this season, Sutton has maintained relatively good statistics, averaging 11.3 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game.
